We are proud to offer Healthy Bones Pilates classes designed specifically for people with low bone density. In our regular Pilates classes, clients experience spinal movement in all planes; forward flexion, lateral, rotation and extension which are healthy and appropriate for people who don’t have low bone density issues. However, someone with osteoporosis may risk fractures without even realizing it.
If you have osteoporosis it is important to be more aware of your body when putting your spine in forward flexion, lateral, rotation and extension motions while doing everyday things like picking something up off the floor or twisting to grab the shampoo while in the shower. Our Healthy Bones classes focus on weight bearing exercise without putting undue stress on the spine.
The development of our Healthy Bones classes are near and dear to my heart as my mother’s own challenges with low bone density inspired me to research healthy, safe and effective Pilates exercises for her. Our Healthy Bones clients notice they stand taller, have better posture, are stronger, more balanced and flexible. Their increased body awareness offers them more mobility and confidence in all they do. Many participant have expressed gratitude for decreased back pain while gardening, or falling on concrete without breaking a bone. Some have even reported moving back into the osteopenia range from osteoporosis.
Healthy Bones classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. If you would like to learn more about how Healthy Bones can help you regain strength, balance and confidence, please contact me for a complimentary consultation. Or you can sign up online here.
