We are excited to begin offering Brolates, specialized Pilates classes designed for men, at Bend Pilates every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. starting February 18. Brolates is a challenging hour-long workout focused on improving strength, power and flexibility.
“Many people aren’t aware that Pilates was developed by a man,” explains Bend Pilates Owner Debby Mandeville-Bowen. “Many professional male athletes use Pilates to improve their athletic performance. It’s a whole body workout and the improved strength and flexibility they gain translates to a wide range of sports.”
Mandeville-Bowen, the only Pilates instructor in Central Oregon who is certified by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), will teach Brolates, and is looking forward to challenging her students.
“Pilates can be gentle, making it great for rehab,” says Mandeville-Bowen, “but it’s also as hard as you want to make it, and I’m excited to inspire men to include Pilates as part of their athletic training in an environment that’s geared just for them.”
The Pilates Method incorporates stretching and strength exercises designed to balance the body, and targets the deep intrinsic, postural muscles that provide underlying support to the body. Additionally, Pilates increases flexibility, strength, balance, lung capacity, endurance, bone density and energy while helping to develop body awareness.
Brolates is $20 per session. Drop-ins are welcome, or you can sign up here.
